The Secret Garden
A series of conservatories were built when the kitchen garden was established to grow exotic plants, such as peaches and grapes. These are now used to propagate hop cuttings for the farm. The largest of these was the Fernery which in Victorian times housed many rare and exotic ferns. Sadly the glass roof was destroyed in the Great Storm of October 1987. The remains have been transformed into a "secret water garden".
The rockery is original and was built from the clinker waste from Faversham Brickworks (one day it is hoped to restore the conservatory to its former condition).
In 2000 the garden was adapted to become a sensory garden with hidden creatures, mysterious footprints, animal tracks and plants selected for their sensory nature. This can be appreciated by anyone with special needs but also all children can have fun answering the quiz as they wander around the garden.
The Kitchen Garden
An original walled garden which was built in 18th Century and designed to provide fruit and vegetables for Nash Court. Now days it does not have so many vegetables but the new straw maze will be sited here.
A female pig is called a sow, and a male is a boar
Pigs cannot sweat - They love to wallow in the mud to keep cool, and use the mud as sun-tan lotion to stop getting sunburnt
Pigs have an excellent sense of smell, they can sniff out truffles as much as 30cm underground
A Pig is very lazy it sleeps for an average of 13 hours per day
